We were driving home the other day, and chatting about this-and-that, when out of the blue, Ella asked "How big is God?" I replied that He is bigger than the whole world; that He can hold the whole world in His hand. Ella then asked "So are we like His toys?" I wanted to laugh so much, but she was serious, and I thought it was best to respond as correctly as I could, without going beyond her ability to understand. I said "No, He loves us, and He lets us do what we want to, but it makes Him sad if we do bad things. So we should always try to be good so He will be happy." She was satisfied with that.
Writing about it now, I am thinking that Ella asked two of the more eternal questions. How big is God? Is He so big he can't possibly care about each individual? Are we simply amusements to Him?
My personal belief is that God does care about each individual. He gave us free will and we can choose to ignore Him or love Him. He sent Jesus to show how much He loves us. John 3:16
