It hurts me, too

The grandchildren came to visit for a couple of hours yesterday, while their parents were out shopping for Travis's birthday present. Travis and Ella wanted to go for a walk around the neighborhood. I didn't think I could carry Kayla the whole time, so I decided to bring up the old wagon from the cellar and put her in it.

At first, Travis wanted to be the big guy and pull the wagon, so it was easy for me to walk alongside and keep an eye on Kayla. Then he got tired of that and wanted to ride. Ella decided she'd ride too. It was fine with Kayla in the middle. After a bit, though, Ella said it was too uncomfortable, so she got out. I should have made Travis get behind Kayla and hold her, but I thought she'd be fine. She was looking over the side and watching the wheels and the road go by. When I was looking forward, I felt a shift in the wagon, heard a thump and turned to see Kayla hit the ground. My heart sunk to the pit of my stomach. I scooped her up and wanted to cry as hard as she was. She stopped crying sooner than I would have expected, but I could see was going to have a bad bruise on her forehead. I carried her home and tried to hold an ice pack on it, as much as she would let me. She took the ice pack and put it on top of her head. I don't know if she just couldn't coordinate it, or weather she might have had a headache.

Either way, I felt like crap for letting it happen. Fortunately, my daughter and son-in-law weren't as upset as I thought they would be. Still, it ruined my mood for the night. I had a nightmare the Kayla was crying, and in the morning had to call to find out how she was. Jenn said she was just fine. What a relief. I only hope Kayla doesn't fear me when she sees me tomorrow!
