The memory of food

A little more than two weeks ago, I came down with a cold.  It hit hard and strong.  On the second day, I left work two hours early because I was so miserable. Took Nyquil, went right to bed and slept the sleep of the dead till morning.  Didn't have to work the next two days, so I was able to rest up.  Now, I usually have a day or two when I get so congested that I lose my sense of smell and taste.  That started on the third day, and hasn't returned yet.
It's been an interesting experiment, to say the least.  Eating, in and of itself is boring.  Put something in your mouth, chew and swallow.   No feeling of comfort, pleasure or satisfaction.  I decided to try some things I don't normally eat, since I couldn't taste them anyway.  One thing I never eat is bananas.  I know they have been touted as one of the "perfect foods".   I got about halfway through one and just couldn't stand it!   Must be a texture thing, as well as taste.   I bought one of those green smoothies, and although it was a little thicker than something I'd normally drink, I might try it again when my taste returns.  I figured it was something good for me, while I didn't feel like eating.  Then I got some plain yogurt, and topped it with fruit.  It seems a little more bitter than I would like, but worth a shot, especially for the "cultures".
I have also begun to train myself to eat less.   Smaller portions, and no snacks at night.  Now if I can keep this up, I just might be healthier this year!
