Perfect love

There is a quote that says "Perfect love never comes until the first grandchild". There is the love of my spouse and of course that of my own child, yet something about my granddaughter just turns me into a different person. I want to defend her, teach her and be there for her in any way that she needs me. She may not be my only reason for living, but she makes the living more worthwhile.
My daughter gave her the nickname "Bean" when she was an infant, and I am one of the few people who still calls her by it on a regular basis. If she's in a group and preoccupied, I can say "Bean", with emphasis and it will always turn her head. It's fun having a special connection.
Since I am a very outdoors oriented person, it is my joy and mission to teach her everything I can about nature. She's just four years old, and already knows several birds by sight. We were watching birds at the feeder when a woodpecker started working its' way down a tree nearby. I told her it was a Downey woodpecker. Just then, it changed direction, and she said, "No, it's an Uppy woodpecker"! How facinating is the mind of a child. Now we both giggle and call them Uppy woodpeckers.
