Yesterday I went to the barn to visit my horse buddies. Since it was raining and I couldn't ride, I gave them all a good grooming. There are five horses and one miniature donkey. I started with the oldest mare, who is 32 years old. The barn has a nice wide aisle, and she was out there without being tied. She is very good and tolerant of most things, but occasionally she got tired of me fussing over her and would walk away.

I spent the most time on my favorite girl, Dakota. She's a Paint and so beautiful that everyone comments on her. I can't wait to start working with her again. I'd like to see her calm down some, so that riding beside the road won't be such an adventure! It will be just a matter of desensitizing her to cars, bikes, etc. Some ground work at head lowering is what I have in mind to start with, and that can be done even if the ring is soggy.

All of the horses were shedding, so spring can't be too far off now!
