Fish in a barrel

Last week we had lots of rain. In some locations, it was really too much, and there was flooding. We didn't have many chances to go outside, so things kind of got away from us.

My grandaughter Ella, discovered that the wheelbarrow was full to the top with water. We hadn't remembered to turn it over when we were done with it. While I was thinking "It's going to be heavy to lift and dump out", Ella got her fishing pole and said she was going to do some fishing! That's one of the many things I love about her. Where I see a "problem" she sees fun!

The rod came with a heavy practice casting plug in the shape of a fish. Ella would drop the fish into the wheelbarrow and then reel it in, shouting "I caught a purple wally!" or some other made-up name of a fish. She had so much fun, I never did dump the water out.

After a while I asked her if she'd let me teach her how to really cast. She said yes, and she actually did a few good ones! She had previously not paid too much attention to my instructions, but now she has an incentive. We were looking at lures, and she found some pink ones. I couldn't belive someone makes pink lures! She asked me to buy one for her, but I said she'd have to learn to cast first. I guess I have to make a trip to the tackle store. Hopefully next week, we will get to the pond and try her new skill.
