I've always liked the saying, "The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man." I wouldn't change it to "person', it just doesn't sound right.
Anyway, I rode for the first time this season, and it was so enjoyable. I originally went to the barn with the intention of just grooming and hanging out, but when Pat asked if I'd like to ride, I couldn't refuse. As if! Luckily she suggested Lady, because I don't think I'm ready to get back on Dakota right now. My riding muscles are too weak from lack of use over the winter, and I have no intention of becoming one with the ground, should Dakota decide to pull any of her funny stuff. I groomed her out in her paddock, and while she was very patient and stood still, I could tell she was just hyper-alert. Those are the days she thinks everything is after her, and she acts out.
Lady was so nice for me. I only rode in the ring, but it was enough. I thought I had her doing the running walk a few times, but Pat said it wasn't quite there. The only thing about Lady is that she is kind of dead-sided. I can get her to respond to my leg fairly well in a turn, but to try to do a half-pass is hopeless so far. She has no idea what I'm asking. I'll have to think of how I can ask her that will make sense to her.
It was a bright sunny day, with temps. in the low sixties, and all was right with my world!
