Birds, etc.

This past weekend I spent time in New Hampshire, at my parent's home. The first bird I noticed was a male bluebird in the yard. I noticed that he was staying in the area and discovered he and his mate are nesting in the birdhouse on the garage! I am so thrilled! The male was actively defending his nest against the sparrows that usually used the house. My family and I watched the bluebird parents bring food to the house, so there are babies there. In fact, my sister said she could hear the babies. I'm going to stay in touch to find out that the babies make it to fledging.

During a hike, I saw hermit thrushes that watched me from the underbrush. They seemed more curious than scared.

On the way home from that hike, I saw a huge raccoon near the fish hatchery. I wonder if he's getting fish snacks at night?!

The crown jewel of the weekend was spotted when my sister and I came home from an errand and spotted a bird splashing in a puddle in the neighbor's driveway. At first I thought it was the bluebird. My sister said "Is that an Indigo....?" and I said "YES!" We were able to watch it for a couple of minutes, but of course by the time we got a camera, he was gone. SO beautiful!
